  18. This is a Macintosh perl port of the unix perl script called "weblint".
  19. Weblint is a syntax and minimal style checker for HTML: a perl script which
  20. picks fluff off html pages, much in the same way traditional lint picks fluff
  21. off C programs.

  23. The current version of the Macintosh port will mirror that of the unix weblint. This is to avoid confusion between the two versions since the unix one will always be released before the Macintosh version.

  25. The unix version of Weblint is available via anonymous ftp, either as a gzip'd tar file,
  26. or zip'd archive:

  35. Instructions

  37. Get a copy of the latest version of the MacPerl 5 application. This was not tested with MacPerl 4, so I do not know what the results will be. I got my copy from:

  40. Edit the MacWebLint.rc file to your specifications.
  41.  
  42. Drag and drop files or folders onto the file called "MacWebLint". It will only try to check files with the suffix of ".html" or ".htm".

  44. If you drag a file onto the droplet, it will create a file called "MacWebLint Results" in the  same folder as MacWebLint.

  46. If you drag a folder onto the droplet, it will create a file called "MacWebLint Results" in the  same folder as the folder that was dragged onto the droplet.

  48. If the file "MacWebLint Results" already exists, the new data will be appended to the old data.

  50. If you have problems, email me with the error. I will do my best to help although, I cannot promise anything or a quick response time. The subject of your message HAS to begin with the word "macweblint" otherwise, I will not answer it because that proves that you have not read this document.

  52. Tests Folder
  53. The tests folder contains a most of the tests from the test.pl script that comes with the distribution. If you drag and drop it onto the MacWebLint droplet, nothing should happen. If you look into the tests folder, the "MacWebLint Results" file should be empty. This is because all of the files in the tests folder are valid HTML files. :)
